The Vincentian Studies Institute at DePaul University announces a program of annual research grants. One single grant of up to $20,000 or smaller grants totaling that amount will be awarded for projects that further scholarship on the Vincentian tradition, past and present. The grant is open both to individual applicants and institutions / organizations conducting research.

The Vincentian Studies Institute of the United States, founded in 1979, is sponsored by DePaul University as a part of the university’s Office of Mission and Values. The Institute’s mission is to promote a living interest in the heritage of the Vincentian Family founded by Saint Vincent de Paul (1581 – 1660) and Saint Louise de Marillac (1591 – 1660).

Supported Projects, Funding & Publication

Research may deal with any aspect of the history, spirituality. or praxis of the Vincentian Family, including any of the branches of the Family: male, female, collaborators, affiliates and associates. The global Vincentian Family comprises, in part, the Ladies of Charity (Founded 1617), the Congregation of the Mission (Founded 1625), the Daughters of Charity (Founded 1633), the Saint Vincent de Paul Society (Founded 1833), and the Sisters of Charity Federation in the Vincentian – Setonian Tradition (Established 1947).

Projects will be evaluated by the members of the Vincentian Studies Institute’s Editorial Board. Grants may be used for any valid purpose related to the conducting of research including travel, research costs, funding of research assistants, buying out of salary/time, etc., and may be used in conjunction with other awards and grants, contingent on receipt of funding for the total balance. Funding will not be provided for costs related to publication.

There is one annual funding cycle. All proposals must be received by September 1st of each year.

Should your research span multiple years progress reports will be required once per year throughout the duration, with a full report upon completion. Grant recipients are encouraged, as appropriate, to submit their research for publication by the Institute either in the form of a journal article, monograph, or other form of publication. Ordinarily, the Vincentian Studies Institute holds first right of publication of the results of funded research. In all cases, receipt of the grant must be acknowledged by the researcher, in all public forums in which the results of the research are presented.
